Underarm Waxing
A Helpful Guide to Underarm Waxing
While women in some foreign countries leave underarm hair alone, in the United States, it is common to shave or go through underarm waxing. For women that have a lot of hair or dense hair, shaving can become annoying and if women like wearing sleeveless tops and the hair is dark, shaving would still leave a dark shadow and stubble behind. For these reasons, waxing has become the preferred choice for eliminating underarm hair.
In addition to being more attractive, underarm waxing serves a purpose from a health standpoint. For instance, if a woman sweats heavily, bacteria builds up that over time, could cause irritation or even infection. Keep in mind that while underarm waxing is most often used by women, many women now use it too, especially those involved in bodybuilding competition.
Years ago, underarm waxing was very expensive and it was hard to find places that offered this type of service but in recent years, waxing has become increasingly more popular, which means the price has gone way down and clinics and day spas throughout most cities do it. Best of all, underarm waxing produces lasting results. Where shaving is typically done daily and plucking is very painful, waxing eliminates the hair quickly and the results last up to one month.
You will also find that hair that grows back after going through underarm waxing is actually thinner and softer. For this reason, some people will have the arms waxed several times a year and then shave the rest of the time. This makes shaving easier while reducing the risk of razor burns or cuts.
Now, when it comes to underarm waxing, two types of wax are used. The first is done with a hard type of wax that is heated so it appears as the consistency of molasses. For people with sensitive skin, this is the preferred option. The second type of wax used is liquid. This too is heated and after being applied, muslin cloth is placed on top and then pulled off quickly and in one step.
If you have been thinking of going through underarm waxing, the following information would help you determine if this is right for you.
-
For waxing to be done, the hair would need to be a minimum of one-quarter inch long so schedule the waxing at the appropriate time to accommodate this requirement
- On the day of the underarm waxing, the armpits would need to be carefully scrubbed
- Be sure not to use deodorant, powder, or lotion anywhere near the armpits so the wax can work more effectively
- If you have open sores or cracked skin, then you would need to wait until the skin is healed before having the waxing performed
- Avoid being in the sun for 24 to 48 hours before you have underarm waxing done
- After the process, the skin will likely be red, irritated, and perhaps swollen, which is perfectly normal and goes away within a day or two
